Kenneth L Nelson

April 11, 1945 – August 30, 2022

Our beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother and friend, Kenneth L Nelson, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday August 30, 2022 after battling Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

Kenneth was born, April 11, 1945 in Manti Utah to Lawrence Robert Nelson and Mable Braithwaite. He was the 3rd of 4 children, with 2 older siblings, Robert Kay and Marilyn, and 1 younger sister, Linda. His family moved to Salt Lake City when he was 5 years old. He attended Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High, South High School, and served in the Utah National Guard.

Ken was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, including a 2 year mission to Lima, Peru and a 6 year service mission with Janice in the Bountiful Temple. He loved the gospel and had a close relationship with his Savior.

On July 28, 1967, he married his beautiful eternal sweetheart, Janice Beckstead, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have always been an Inspiration of what it means to build a life together. Together they had 6 children: Michelle, Kenneth, Jodi, Marianne, Robert and Scott.

Ken loved people and he loved to talk. This made him a natural salesman. He worked For Halverson Company in the mining and feed industry and later worked for AAA Insurance Company. When he wasn’t working, you could find him refereeing basketball, playing softball on the ‘Old Men’s League’ or in the mountains; camping, fishing, and 4-wheeling, or at home making zucchini bread and quilts. He loved to travel and he and Janice were able to travel to England, France, Mexico, Canada and all 50 states. The final one just last week, being an Alaskan cruise, in which all of his children were able to be there with him.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janice, of 55 years, his children, Michelle (Christian) Larsen, Kenneth (Tawnya), Jodi (Brett) Buchi, Marianne (Christopher) Hansen, Robert (DeAnn), Scott (Jessica), 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Kay.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, September 7  from 6–8 pm at North Salt Lake LDS Stake Center, 954 West 1100 North, North Salt Lake, and again on Thursday September 8  from 9:45–10:45 am.

Funeral Services will immediately follow at 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will be at the Salt Lake Cemetery.

We love you Dad. You will be greatly missed. It brings comfort knowing you are free of your physical pain and that you are most likely out fishing with Kay, running the bases, and handing out zucchini bread to everyone. Save us a spot on your Field of Dreams.

Will always remember his faithful service in the Salt Lake Riverside Stake. Enjoyed many years of playing basketball with him or against him. I admired him being willing to put himself at times in harms way as a referee. I have fond memories of him and his wonderful family.

My best memories of Kenny were his smile, wit and laugh. My sister, Laura Newren was part of the coolest gleaners in Temple View stake and Kenny was part of that bunch. So sorry Janice will be separated from her sweetheart for now.....but how to have had 55 years and end it with all your family on a cruise! My heart goes out to you.
