In Loving Memory of Kenneth Wayne Patterson

Kenneth (Kenny/Papa) Wayne Patterson of Magnolia, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1945, in Ariton, Alabama and later moved to Haines City, Florida. Kenneth was the first child of Jimmie Ruth Medley Pappas and Joseph Christopher Patterson.

Kenneth was the first generation in his family to attend college. He received an associate degree at Florida State University and continued his education at the University of Florida. While attending Florida State University, in Tallahassee, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Ruth Ferrell, on November 18, 1967. They were married for 57 years at the time of his transitioning to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They were blessed with two daughters, Lori Jeannette, born in Tallahassee on February 17, 1970, and Amy Lynn, born in Houston on July 13, 1977. Prior to the birth of Lori, Sharon Louise Morton became like a daughter to Kenneth and Pat early in her childhood and remains so.

In 1975 Kenneth graduated a proud Florida Gator from the University of Florida, in Gainesville, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. As a result of his hard work and exceptional GPA, he was offered employment with the prestigious Shell Oil Company in Houston. He was a dedicated Corporate Tax Accountant with Shell for 28 years before retiring to Florida where he worked for Rotech Healthcare for 9 years. In 2021 Kenneth and Pat returned to Texas to spend more time with the younger grandchildren.

Kenneth's pride and joy was his family. His support for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild was unmatched. He was known as a kind, caring, and loving person and that was felt by all of his closest family. Throughout Kenneth's life, he enjoyed traveling with his family, beating everyone at Yahtzee, and playing Dominos. Above all else, his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Kenneth was lovingly called Papa by his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He was an avid fisherman, numismatist, loved reading, genealogy research, and had a passion for collecting beautiful rocks/precious stones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Pappas and Joseph Patterson, and his stepfather, Theodos George Pappas, who was Kenneth's father figure for most of his life. Kenneth was also preceded in death by his loving Aunt Willie Mae Canfield and his nephew, Johnnie Norris Patterson, Jr.

Kenneth loved Pat's family very much. Those preceding his death are Louise and Woodrow Ferrell, Edward Sellers, Ray Taylor, Nancy Ferrell Morton, Frances Ferrell Dean, Alonzo Ferrell, Paul Ferrell, and Betty Ferrell Colvin.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Patricia Ferrell Patterson, daughters, Lori McCarthy, Amy (Tim) Patterson and Sharon (Mark) Hobart, grandchildren, Sarah Hoff (38), Ashley Patterson (35), Brooke Patterson (31), Alexis Patterson (18), Emma Patterson (17), Jake Patterson (12) and his great-granddaughter, Riley Hoff (14).

Kenneth is also survived by his siblings Johnnie (Gloria) Patterson, George (Sylvia) Pappas, Debbie Einmo, Chris (Amy) Pappas and all of their children. His brothers-in-law are Max (Ann) Ferrell, John David (Florence) Ferrell, sisters-in-law, Faye Taylor, Linda (Dennis) Young, Jeannie (Tony) Colvin, Merri Sliger, Pat Humphries and all of their children. Kenneth's closest friends include Bert and Alice Brooks and Heyda Santiago.

Services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10AM at Faith Funeral Home in Havana, Florida with burial in Woodville, Florida.

My deepest condolences to you and the family. I pray for strength and comfort during these difficult times. I had the pleasure of working with Ken at Rotech in the tax department. I am very grateful for everything that I learned from him. He was very smart and loved what he did. He was always talking about his family. We made a great team and the work was submitted on time. After he left, the department was not the same. Going to miss the calls every now and then to check up on you. Rest in Peace!

Kenny was always very kind to me and Dennis. He called us often and always asked if we needed anything to please let him know. He also helped house us in Gainesville and Atlanta many years ago for a few days until we could find a place to live. We actually lived next door to them for a while in a townhouse and enjoyed spending time with him and Patty and baby Lori. Kenny called us several times during Covid to check on us and offered to order and have delivered anything we needed. We were okay but it was very kind of him to offer. We are thankful for the friendship we shared over the years. Hugs and prayers for all of his precious family.
Much love, Linda and Dennis

Kenny was always so kind, loving, patient and funny. Kenny and Pat raised me. Kenny was there for me growing up, and they both have cared for me all my life. Mark and I loved Kenny greatly, and we enjoyed playing cards with him. Both our hearts are saddened from this loss.

Kenny was a loyal brother-in-law and friend. I'll always remember the long conversations with had when I was traveling to out of town jobs. He kept me intertained and awake. I'm sorry his dream of owning a fish camp never came to fruition but I did offer him my home which was often refered to as a fish camp. Kenny was a good man, a good husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Go Rest High Kenny.
