Kenneth H. Probst

Kenneth H. Probst, 78 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday September 22, 2021 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with burial at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools or donors' choice.
Ken was born February 2, 1943 in Effingham, the son of Andrew and Adella (Esker) Probst. He married Karen A. Mihlbachler on November 14, 1964. Ken was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665.
Ken is survived by his wife Karen of Effingham; son Kurt (Christie) of Lexington, KY; daughter, Kelly (Scott) Pals of Effingham; siblings Evelyn (Kenneth) Koester of Effingham, Patricia (Jerry) Stock of Effingham, Weldon (Sharon) Probst of Effingham and Carol (Max) Higgs of Bishop Creek; grandchildren; Zack (Hayley) Pals, Nick (Jayme) Pals, Alex (Morgan) Pals, Corbin Probst, Kollin (Allison) Probst, Karley Probst, Camren Probst, and Kennah Probst; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Amelia, and Evelyn Pals, Collin and Maddox Nichols, Holly Pals, Meredith, Ella, Claire, and Korie Probst and expecting one great-grandchild in December and one in January.
Ken grew up on his family farm in Bishop Creek and was a graduate of Teutopolis High School in 1960. After graduation he joined the National Guard while doing work in plumbing and heating. He then started working at B&B Plumbing which later was sold to Butler Supply. He worked there for 49 years. While employed Ken still helped on the family farm and found time to help his family and friends whenever they needed it. Ken was quite a talented handyman-he could fix about anything. Ken enjoyed squirrel hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids and especially the visits with his great-grandkids.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mildred (Gene) Nosbisch.
