Kenneth "Ken" Ray Proffitt Sr., age 69, was born on October 17, 1955, in Corbin, Kentucky to the late Ray and Nannie Mitchell Proffitt.
Ken was of the Baptist faith, and was currently a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, and formerly a member of Faith Baptist Church both in Corbin. He loved to serve in the Church and especially when it came to serving the children's meals. Ken loved riding his Harley and being with his friends, whom he made everywhere he went. Ken had retired after working for over 40 years at the former Corbin Farm and Garden where he started working for his uncle and later for the late Don Holland and Anthony and Cheryl Holland, who all became like family not just friends and colleagues. He previously loved to hunt and fish where he made many friends over the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his special uncle and aunt, Starlin and Lorene Mitchell; special guardian Angels, Dorman and Glenda Lickliter; father-in-law, Glenn Fields; special friend, Henry Standafer; and by two sisters, Betty Monday and Patricia "Pat" Dixon.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Proffitt with whom he was married to for over 41 years; son, Ken Proffitt Jr and wife Jennifer; granddaughters, Aubree and Melia Proffitt; mother-in-law, Wilma Fields, all of Corbin; sister, Carolyn Weilage and husband Don of Crestwood, KY; special brothers, Carl Brewer, David Lickliter, Robbie Lickliter, and Don Hutton; and by several nieces, nephews, and by a host of family and friends who will all mourn his passing.
Ken was a devoted Husband, Father, and "Poppy" but above all a devout Christian. He loved his family and friends, and spending time with them. His smile and laughter could light up a room or change a mood. He was always joking and cutting up with people everywhere he went and always made new friends. Visitation for Kenneth Proffitt will be held from 6-8 pm on Saturday December 21, 2024, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home. His funeral service will then be held at 3pm on Sunday December 22nd at Hopewell Baptist Church, 1045 KY 1223, Corbin, KY.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, KY.
