Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory on Oct. 24, 2025.
Dr. Kenneth Loem Rall, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
Ken was born on February 11,1935 to Harold and Lola Emma Freudenburg in Independence, Missouri. Ken was the youngest of five children and following the passing of his mother at his birth, he was lovingly adopted by his mother's sister and her husband who raised him as an only child. He graduated from Central Missouri State University in 1956, where he met his first wife, Sara Thoma. They were married in 1956. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 1960 and completed his residency in Radiology in 1964. He deeply loved practicing medicine and was devoted to his patients and colleagues throughout his career. Ken served in the U.S. Army Medical Core-Redstone Arsenal in Alabama from 1964-1966. He was active in the Missouri State Medical Association.
As their family grew to include three children, Ken was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher; and he gave many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America as Scoutmaster of Troop 3. In the early 1970s, Ken decided to buy a farm to keep his children "out of trouble," though it also allowed him to relive fond memories of his own youth when he lived on a farm in Sibley, Missouri.
In his early years in Columbia, Ken found a welcoming community at his church where he made many lifelong friends. Together, they cheered on the Missouri Tigers, attending countless games and sharing in the joy of camaraderie. Over the years, this close circle gathered often, celebrated milestones, and traveled together.
Known for his wry sense of humor and strong work ethic, Ken approached life with quiet determination and sharp intellect. His humor was dry and often unexpected but always perceptive, leaving those around him smiling at his understated wit and distinctive, occasionally eccentric, outlook on life. An avid reader, Ken devoured books of every genre, especially history and biographies. As his children married and grandchildren arrived, he delighted in family beach vacations, despite his good-natured admission to being "seasick".
In 2008, Ken married Betsy Baker, with whom he shared many years of companionship and service to church and community. His later years were also filled with gardening, visiting estate sales, volunteering, and attending the graduations and weddings of his grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betsy Baker Rall; his children Susan (Edward) Bloomfield and Kurt (Jane) Rall; and his grandchildren: Jason (Andrea) Rall, Kristen (Luke) Mitchell, Katelyn Rall, Morgan Souers, Brett (Sarah) Lenz, Kyle (Mary) Rall, Dr. Natalie (Ethan) Rall, Michael Rall, and Sophia Rall, stepsons Rick (Rasha) Baker, and John Baker, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Sara Thoma Rall, his devoted wife of 46 years, and by his son, Kenneth Rall, Jr.
