Kenneth P. Ricketts, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on November 14, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital. Ken was born in Posey County on July 15, 1938, the son of the late Leonard Ricketts and Ruth Batey.
After graduation, Ken joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell, where he completed Airborne School and became part of the 101st Airborne. Ken was extremely proud of his military career and remained deeply patriotic throughout his life.
After returning from the military, Ken began his longtime career in automobile sales, eventually opening Ken's Auto Sales in Mt. Vernon-a business he operated for nearly 25 years before retiring.
Ken had a great love for motorcycles. In his younger years, he raced competitively, participating in several nationally known events. He enjoyed traveling the country on his bike with his wife, Mary. Ken also enjoyed playing golf and never passed up the chance to enjoy ice cream. He was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion, and the Moose-places he frequented to meet with friends and stay up to date on all the latest happenings. He was also a member of Harvestime Temple in Mt. Vernon.
Ken is survived by his wife, Mary Ricketts; children, Todd (Cindy) Ricketts and Penny (Kurt) Souders; 9 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Walls; nephews; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruby Ricketts and Tom and Ruth Batey; and his son, Rick Geuss.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with Pastor Mark Tabor officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery with military rites provided by the Owen Dunn Post #5 Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
