Winda Thompson Dumond, age 71, of Mount Vernon, IN, passed away peacefully Friday evening November 14, 2025, surrounded by family. Born February 4, 1954 in Hope, AR, she was the eldest daughter of the late Windle and Eugenia (Davie) Thompson.
Winda was a ray of light in the life of those who had the privilege to have been welcomed by her. Raised in Muskogee, OK, she completed her Bachelors of Arts in English at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK where she met Franklin, her husband of 49 years. Winda was mother to three sons. Her life's journey was marked by love, generosity and an unwavering faith in Our Lord. Winda was grandmother to three grandsons. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Winda was a renowned quilter, enthusiastic baker and homemaker, an avid basket weaver, and a skilled gardener. "Miss Winda" was a beloved preschool/early elementary Sunday School teacher at, and member of, Plainview General Baptist Church. Her wish would be that we remember her for the vibrancy and spark she brought to all those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin; her sons Joseph Dumond (Jaclyn) of Mount Vernon, IN; Jeffrey Dumond (Jillian) of Evansville, IN; and Justin Dumond-Shaw (David) of Minneapolis, MN; her grandsons William, Henry, and Simon; her sister Cheryl Johnson (Gary) of Broken Arrow, OK; brothers Daniel and David Thompson of Salmon, ID; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Plainview General Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 792 County Rd. 325 N., Norris City, IL 62869.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN, the Rev. Danny Risinger officiating. A private burial is to be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
