Paul Mitchell

Paul Eugene Mitchell, 96, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away, October 21, 2025 at the Charles Ford Home in New Harmony. He was born May 1, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Lee and Martha (Ingle) Mitchell.
Paul proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. A 1948 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, he worked for Farm Bureau Oil Co. for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the IMA. Paul was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel, was a member of the USI Varsity Club and past member of the Mt. Vernon Parks and Rec Board. Deeply devoted to Mt. Vernon sports, he was one of the founding members of the Mt. Vernon M-Club. Paul cherished time with his family, loved watching sports, and enjoyed playing golf-he even bowled a perfect 300 game in his church league.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nikki Y. Mitchell; brothers, Ronald, Harold, Roscoe and Elwood Mitchell; and sisters, Lela Buzan and Elizabeth Jeffries.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Erma (Montgomery) Mitchell; sons, Steve Mitchell (Betsy), Scott Mitchell (Stacey) and Dave Mitchell; daughter, Julie Stedeford; grandchildren, Tim Mitchell, Abbey Mitchell, Elijah, Serena and Josiah Stedeford; great-granddaughter, Oakley Choate; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, October 27 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Rev. John Motz officiating and burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Military Rites provided by Owen Dunn Post #5 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at the funeral home.
