Dorothy Garrett

Dorothy Dean Garrett, 91, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away, October 1, 2025 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, IN. She was born September 30, 1934 in Mt Vernon, IN to the late Robert and Bernadine (Fischer) Osban.

Dorothy was a 1970 graduate of Tri State Beauty College. She owned and operated the Hair Shack in Mt. Vernon for 20 years before retiring in 1990. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #5. She found joy in traveling and had a passion for painting and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John A. Garrett; daughter, Debra Gose in 2020; parents; sister, Mary Ann Schmitt; brother, John Osbon; and her granddaughter, Dana Dartt.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Dennis Garrett, Donnie Garrett (Denise), and Darryl Garrett (Andrea); grandchildren, Deena Stolz, Travis Garrett, Dax Newman Brandon Garrett, John Garrett Caddwell, Jason Young, Tyler Greathouse, and Brandi Young; great-grandchildren, Seth Stolz, Caleb Stolz, Alex Dartt, Jake Dartt and Conner Garrett; 7 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Ron Gose; sister-in-law, Sue Osban; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Fr. Raymond Brenner officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at the funeral home.
