Edra Roberts Garrett, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Edra was born in Jefferson City, TN to Paul and Kathleen Garrett. She graduated from Jefferson High School and Carson-Newman College. She worked in numerous departments at Carson-Newman for 40 years before retiring from her position as Director of the Family Enrichment Institute. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Gerald across the US and abroad. She was a wonderful photographer, her photos appearing in Reading Ireland magazine. Edra became a friend to several artists, most notably Horton Foote. Edra was also a friend to so many in this community, and she valued those friendships. She was always present and involved in her children's activities, sitting in the stands at sporting events & recitals, serving Wednesday night suppers at First Baptist Church, and volunteering poolside and sharing her pimento cheese sandwiches at swim meets with the Jefferson City Swim Club. With the same enthusiasm, Edra spent much of her retirement years caring for her mother, meeting any and all of her needs, while also being actively involved in the care and activities of each of her grandchildren. Edra is preceded in death by her father, Paul Garrett. She is survived by her husband of 16 years Gerald (Jerry) Wood; mother Kathleen Garrett; sisters Jan Thomas (Dan) and Sandra Key; daughter Andra Hutchins (Erik); son Shane Cureton (Odily); and daughter Kerissa Stott (Cory); grandchildren Alexandra & Halle; Briana, Zoe, & Liam; and Aubrie, Kinslie, & Brycen; special aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; step son Tim Wood (Beth) and children Annabel & Makaela of Denver, CO; step daughter Sarah Baurle (Eric) and children Everett & Charlotte of Franklin, TN. Edra was adored by her children and grandchildren, who called her "E." She was deeply loved by her entire family. She loved us all in so many big and small ways. Edra had this way about her that cannot be put into words but was certainly felt by all who knew her and loved her. She was a constant source of love, laughter, and humility. Her presence filled our homes and our hearts. Her voice provided comfort, encouragement, and guidance. Her example was one of courage, strength, commitment, & beauty. Edra loved nature and being outdoors, walking barefoot in the grass, hiking East TN trails, and sitting on her porch swing. She loved hummingbirds, flowers, little trinkets, and books. She was a cat whisperer, a secret keeper, a photo book maker, and a creative gift giver. Edra was a truly beautiful soul. She was and will always be our center and our inspiration. Family and friends will gather to celebrate and honor the memories of Edra on Saturday, October 4th, 10:00 AM until noon at Fielden Funeral Home in New Market. Edra will be laid to rest in a private service at New Market Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Edra's memory to the
American Cancer Society, Amedisys Hospice, or a
charity of your choice. Fielden Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Edra Roberts Garrett.
