Kenneth M. Sourwine Sr., age 76, U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, beloved husband of 54 years to Sharon, nee Helms; loving father of Kenneth, Jr. (Charia), Kelly, and Kathleen (Steven) Wrobel; Cherished grandfather of Kaylee, and Taylor; and Lucas Wrobel; dear brother of the late Kerry (the late Kathleen), and the late Kevin (Rayna) Sourwine; also, nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Chicago and attended St. Mel's High School. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in Okinawa. Married for fifty-four years to the love of his life, Sharon Sourwine. Their children, Kenny, Kelly and Kathy were with Ken for the last days of his life, along with his grandchildren, Lucas, Kaylee, Taylor and many other close family members.
Those who knew and loved Ken, knew him to be genuinely interested in other people's lives. He wanted to know about you, your story and how you were doing. He was truly happy to see people have good fortune and enjoy their lives. Ken was a Chicagoan. His pet peeve was any reference made to any part of Chicago being "downtown" if it wasn't bounded by the Chicago River at the north and west, Michigan Avenue at the east and Congress Parkway at the south. A serious conversation would ensue with Ken so that he could set you straight on the boundaries.
Ken dedicated his work years to Western Electric and Union Pacific Railroad. He wanted you to know this, if the opportunity arose in conversation. He loved to make and enjoy delicious specialty foods especially gravy and always had his favorite kitchen staple, "Kitchen Bouquet," on hand.
Ken's nieces and nephews meant a lot to him. He was always pleased when they called or emailed to catch up, seek advice, exchange funny stories, or of course, just get directions.
He was always joking around with his Godson, David Mazzacano and loved hearing about his Goddaughter, Iliana David's exciting adventures. Ken was a diehard Fan of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. He loved to watch the stock market, tell you the weather forecast, play poker and knew every episode of Two and a Half Men (Charlie Sheen episodes only) by heart. Ken's death occurred just as his favorite show was about to come on, "World News Tonight." Ironic because the world will not be the same without Kenneth Sourwine in it.
