"A celebration of the lives of Kenneth "Ken" Spencer and Vada Ann "Wooz" Spencer will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at The Shelter at Scipio United Methodist Church. A Private Family Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Scipio at a later date.

Kenneth "Ken" Wayne Spencer, Sr. 70, of Scipio, passed away at 4:24 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. Vincent Jennngs Hospital in North Vernon.

Ken was born April 24th in 1955 to the late Kenneth Samuel Spencer and Ruby (Vernal) Pruitt in Columbus, IN.

He attended Columbus North High School. He was a 29-year retiree of Nippon Pipe and Steel of America located in Seymour, IN. He is an avid golfer, who has won or placed in many golf league tournaments. It has been said by one of his colleagues, "Ken is one of the best guys I have ever known". He has been a player and head or assistant coach for baseball, softball, and golf throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Vada Ann "Wooz" Spencer, 71, of Scipio, passed away at 1:12 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis.

Born March 8, 1954, in Wise, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Emma Jean (Masters) Smith. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Wayne Spencer Sr., on December 23, 1972, in Columbus.

Vada was a 1971 graduate of Columbus North High School and worked 30 plus years as a pastry chef, working for Holiday Inn Bakery and Donuts N Coffee in Columbus and the Park and Eat in Columbus and North Vernon. She was the owner and operator of Topper's Pizza. Vada was a member of the Scipio United Methodist Church and volunteered as a grandparent at Scipio Elementary and was known as "Mamaw Wooz" She enjoyed sewing, fishing, gardening collecting rocks, going to the lake and beach, cooking, baking, and canning. Vada was known for the best canned sauerkraut and pickled beets. She loved spending time with her family and was a compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

On December 23rd, 1972 the two were married in Columbus, Indiana.

Over the next 53 years the couple shares a life of love, compassion, joys, challenges, and adventures. Together the couple sponsored mission outreaches and two misson children, enjoyed gardening, attending and coaching baseball and softball, going to concerts, plays and musicals, dinning out, and any events of their 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children.

Surviving our their children, a son, Kenneth (Heather) Spencer Jr. of Scipio; their daughters, Vanessa (Damian) Shepherd, of Scipio, Vallencia (Chad) Stark of North Vernon; brothers, Tommy Smith and Kenny Smith, both of Columbus, and Robbie Smith of Indianapolis; sisters, Sherry Luse of Greenwood, and Jennifer (Steve) O'Connell of Columbus; grandchildren, Kenneth Spencer III (Haley), Grace Stark, and Harley (Bryce) Neeley, all of North Vernon, William Stark, Destiny Leslie and Aiden Shepherd, all of Scipio, Kyler Leslie of Hanover, and Aron Spencer of Butlerville; and great-grandchildren, Shayley Shepherd and Athena Neeley, both of North Vernon.

They were preceded in death by their parents; a sister Debra Newsome, brother-in-law, Chuck Luse; and sister-in-law, Tammy Smith.
