Rick Spencer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates-Gould Funeral Home - Alliance on Mar. 16, 2026.
Richard "Rick" Lee Spencer, age 69, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Lincoln, NE surrounded by his loving family.

Rick was born and raised in Alliance to Richard and Eileen Spencer. He carried the values of hard work, sarcasm (jokester he was) and devotion to family throughout his life.

Rick dedicated 44 years of service to BNSF Railway, where he built a respected career and lasting friendships. Prior to his retirement, Rick and his beloved wife, Linda, moved to Lincoln to enjoy their next chapter together. Rick was known not only for his dedication and love for family, but also for his quick wit and playful sense of humor. He loved to tease, tell jokes and keep everyone around him laughing. If there was an opportunity for a good one-liner or a little harmless mischief, Rick was usually right in the middle of it.

Rick was a devoted member of Lincoln Berean Church, where he faithfully served as an usher alongside his wife and sang in the choir. His faith and service to others were an important part of his life. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Rick was also a lifelong and passionate fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on. Saturdays during football season were serious business in Rick's house unless, of course, he was busy joking about the score.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Linda Hoffman Spencer; his children, Steven (Celeste) Hoffman, Amanda Spencer, Desiree Hoffman-Hartsell, Anna Spencer, and Kyle (Veronica) Riggs and his 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen Spencer, his sisters, Joyce (Larry) Linder and LaDonna (Terry) Grubbs and by his nieces, Heather (Chris) Garrett, Michelle (Grant) Aden, his nephews, Kirk (Heidi) Carpenter, Brandon Grubbs, Matt (Trisha) Linder and Cody Linder. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard and his sister-in-law, Lisa Hoffman.

Rick's life was defined by dedication to his family and his faith. He leaves behind countless memories, plenty of laughter, and a family who will miss his jokes almost as much as they miss him.

Funeral Services will be held at the Alliance Berean Church, Saturday, March 21st, at 11:00 am. Followed by burial at Alliance City Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be Friday, March 20 from 4-6 p.m. at the Bates-Gould Funeral Home.
