Jeff Q.B. (Duke) Spencer, born December 22, 1932, passed away at his home on March 13, 2026 at the age of 93.

A visitation will be Wednesday, March 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19, 2026 2:00 p.m. Mark Sanders will officiate. And burial will follow at Georgia Cemetery.

Q.B. served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked as a machinist at Green Machinery Irrigation Co. in Plainview, TX from the age of 19 until his first retirement and then Riceland Corporation in Stuttgart, AR. He then retired to live in Sumner in 1999 and began working for The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, at Camp Gambill in Sumner until he permanently retired in 2025.

He attended Powderly Church of God, was an active member of American Legion and served as Commander of Warren Teague Post 199 2008-2009. He was an active member of Hopewell Volunteer Fire Department from 1999 – 2026, and served as Secretary/Treasurer until 2025.

"Duke" was a man of many hobbies: gardening, hunting, fishing, golf, watching great grandsons play football and baseball, playing 42 (dominoes) with brothers, and weekly at Hopewell Fire Station. Duke was known for making pear preserves, salsa, and peanut brittle.

He is survived by two children: Gaye Lynn Spencer Aday (Paul), DeAnne Spencer Wood (Dale) ;three grandchildren: Christopher Bowers, Amy White, Bonnie Aday Pruitt (Ken) and five great grandchildren: Steven Langley, Weslee Langley, Ava Langley, Ellie Pruitt, Sydney Pruitt; brothers, Ray Spencer (Shirley), Fred Spencer (Carolyn Sue), Ralph Spencer, Ronnie Spencer (Inell), Lonnie Spencer (Margo); sisters Faye Daniel, Katherine Siddle, Emma Dickerson (Donnie), Linda Gamble (Stanley Crawford), Carolyn Miller.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Dean Grubbs Spencer, married for 57 years; brothers, George Spencer, Frank Spencer, Bobby Spencer, Joe Spencer and Willie D. Spencer; and sisters, Daisy Birdsong, Margie Swint.

Active Pallbearers are Jeff's nephews: Billy Don Spencer, Steve Birdsong, Drew Miller, Jay Spencer, Jeffery Spencer, Jesse Farnsworth, Rick Miller, Stanley Spencer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Langley, Weslee Langley, Gary Spencer, Adam Spencer, Clay Spencer, Kyle Dickerson, Paul Ray Spencer, John Mark Spencer, Donald Daniel, Ronald Daniel, J.D. Daniel, Darron Spencer, Micah Spencer, Waylon Spencer, and Jackie Spencer and David Swint, Scott Farnsworth, Jason Spencer, Jim Ard, and Danny Lambert.
