Kenneth E. Stepler, 95, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024. He was born December 14, 1928 in Chambersburg and was a son of the late Earl and Erna Leberknight Stepler. His beloved wife, Mary Bard Stepler, preceded him in death in 2005.
Ken was a 1946 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served honorably from 1950-52. He hand wrote letters to his mother during his time in Germany and he kept those letters until his death. Ken later worked at Sun Oil Company for 36 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the Second Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1599, the Marine Corps League and Goodwill Fire Company, all in Chambersburg. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and buying ice cream for his grandchildren at Kenny's.
He was well-informed and educated of current and historical events and was a generous donor of various nonprofit and civic organizations. Many will remember him for his quiet, kind and humble nature.
Ken is survived by his son, Kenneth B. Stepler (wife Nancy) of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Kellen Stepler of Pittsburgh, and Treyton and Robyn Stepler, both of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from his wife and parents, Ken was preceded in death by two siblings, Richard Stepler and Lois Lesher.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Christopher Frye will officiate.
