Kenneth Stoutenborough Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bolock Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. - Cresco on Jun. 26, 2025.
Kenneth Stoutenborough was born in Middletown, Ohio on September 11, 1942 to Roy and Ruth (Hadley) Stoutenborough and passed away on June 24th, 2025.
After completing his education in medicine, he served as a flight surgeon (during the Vietnam conflict) at a search and rescue air station in the US Coast Guard in Traverse City, Michigan where he was cited for Meritorious Achievement while rescuing injured men in drifting snow from a plane crash.
After completing his residency at the University of Michigan, he began his career as an Internist, specializing in Hematology and Oncology in private practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1974. He worked as a physician until 2007, ending his career working in hospice and palliative care.
He felt proud of his involvement in the early development of hospice in Grand Rapids and returning to hospice and palliative care at the end of his career. This was something he felt strongly about, especially in the non-profit sector.
Ken enjoyed sailing, traveling (especially to Sedona, Arizona) and spending time with his family. The Great Lakes of Michigan were a special part of his life and he spent many years living, working and recreating on or near the Great Lakes.
Ken was well-supported in his career and his personal life by his loving wife, Jane, who worked alongside him as his nurse through some of his career.
Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane Stoutenborough, his daughters, Kat Stoutenborough (Dan Rigney) and Juli Apple (Quentin) and his sons Kevin, Bryan (Masako), Brendan and Padrick (Naomi) Ritch and his grandchildren Dillon and Makana Ritch, Pen Rigney and Lauren, Luke and Ryan Apple. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Tom and Bill Stoutenborough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in Most Holy Trinity Parish, 236 PA-390, Cresco, PA 18326 where the family will receive friends and relatives from 10:00A.M. until the time of mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice in Bethlehem, PA at www.slhn.org/development or by sending a check made payable to St. Luke's University Health Network, and can be mailed to St. Luke's University Health Network Development Office, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem, PA 18015. We´re heartbroken to say goodbye to Ken. He was smart, funny, and full of love - always sharing his knowledge and jokes. He cared deeply for our family - from our mom to his children, grandchildren, siblings, and everyone lucky to know him. Ken made people feel valued and cared for, and he filled our lives with warmth, laughter, and wisdom. We´re grateful for our time with him, and we´ll always carry his love and laughter with us.
