Kenneth Teppo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 15, 2025.
Kenneth William Teppo (Ken) passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born on April 13, 1945, to William and Mabel Teppo in Marquette, Michigan. Growing up just outside of town, he developed a deep love for the forests of the Upper Peninsula and was active in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

In December 1948, his family moved to Ann Arbor, where Ken attended Ann Arbor High School before pursuing both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in dentistry at the University of Michigan. While at the university, he met Anne Louise Marcy, whom he married in 1960. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Alaska while Ken served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. In 1962, they returned to Ann Arbor, where they raised their three children: Nancy, Bill, and Jon.

Ken practiced dentistry for 42 years and dedicated 34 years to teaching at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, retiring as an Associate Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics. He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder and ushering for many years. A devoted University of Michigan football fan and marching band alum, he cherished autumn game days with his family.

An outdoor enthusiast, Ken found joy in fishing and often embarked on Canadian fishing expeditions. He was known for his sharp intellect, love for his family, and keen sense of humor. He often joked that he would pass away after catching the world's biggest walleye-but if he wasn't ready to go, he would simply cut the line.

Ken is survived by his wife, Marcy; his sisters, Marilyn Teppo and Chris Litzenberg; his daughter, Nancy Nygren; his son, Jon Teppo (Tami); and his grandchildren: Max, Linnea, Ben, Sam, and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Bill.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road, Ann Arbor, MI. An online guest book is available at www.annarbor.com/obituaries for those wishing to share condolences or memories. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
