Kenneth Thorpe Obituary

Kenneth Thorpe, 55, of Abilene, Texas, passed on March 30, 2021. A funeral service will be held at Myers & Smith Funeral Home in Big Spring, Texas, on Monday, April 5 to celebrate his life. Family and friends are invited from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., followed by the graveside service starting at 3 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Park. Kenneth was born in Lockney, Texas on April 22, 1965, to his parents Jack and Lynn Thorpe.
He is remembered for his humor and sense of adventure by his friends and family. After graduating from Big Spring High School, Kenneth attended Howard College and also joined the Army. After joining the Army, Kenneth met Lucy in Big Spring. They married on Oct. 22, 1988 and settled down in Abilene in 1998 with their children: Desiree Thorpe, Ariel Beck, and Justin Thorpe. Kenneth retired as a decorated Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army serving in multiple campaigns such as the Persian Gulf War and Iraq war. After retiring, Kenneth enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He made many friends through the Abilene Jeep Club in which he worked on his jeep and went on rides with his friends and partner Starla Hinton. Every Sunday, Kenneth and Starla had brunch with Sam and Chuck-a very special tradition to Kenneth. In addition to these special moments, Kenneth loved playing Halo, his favorite video game. A part of his gameplay was to convince Justin to help him defeat bosses that were too difficult. He also loved playing Settlers of Catan, one of his favorite board games, with his kids. Overall, Kenneth loved spoiling his children, grandchildren, and pets. Kenneth is survived by his three children: Justin Thorpe of Abilene, Desiree Thorpe and her husband Jordan Mills of Denton, and Ariel and her husband Austin Beck of Fort Lee, VA; his partner Starla Hinton of Abilene; one brother: Gordon and his wife Teresa Morris of Lampasas; two sisters Carol Speaker and her husband Rory of Van Alystine; Susan Harvey and her husband Larry of Tow; two grandchildren: Vera Beck and Clarence Beck of Fort Lee, VA; three nephews: Heath and his wife Becky Hodnett; Michael and his wife Linda Hensley; and Jimmy Pearce; and a number of cousins. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife: Lucy Thorpe; his mother: Lynn Thorpe; and two nephews: Dexter Morris and Jay Hensley.
Pallbearers will be Justin Thorpe, Heath Hodnett, Austin Beck, James Pearce, Michael Hensley and Jordan Mills.

I can't believe it's been a year already. I miss you trying to scare me. One of my favorite memories of you was when we were young and I had finally gotten my first ac/dc record and was so excited. My Mom didn't like me having it so she gave it to you but later you gave it back to me when she wasn't around. Growing up with you was great even when we butted heads. I miss you Uncle Kenny! Give Nini, Lucy and Wendy a hug from me. Love you all always.

To this day I can't listen to hair metal without think of you. You showed me some really awesome bands and I love you for that. I always saw you like a second father. I'll never forget the time when I introduced you to my now husband you gave him the "dad talk" it meant so much to me. I will always love you and miss you.
