Kenneth Paul Vassily, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, cherished educator and coach, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 18, 2025, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Born on October 28, 1942, in
Cleveland, Ohio, Ken filled his 83 years with love, laughter, and a dedication to serving his community and family.
Ken received his bachelor's degree from Mount Union College in 1964 and earned his master's degree from John Carroll University in 1973. He passionately devoted 31 years of his life to teaching mathematics in the North Olmsted City Schools, where he inspired countless young minds. In addition to his teaching career, he was a talented coach, mentoring student athletes in both football and basketball.
A proud member of Fields United Methodist Church, Ken found joy in connecting with his community and sharing his faith. His adventurous spirit led him to explore state and national parks, where he reveled in the beauty of nature. He also had a green thumb, enjoying time in the garden, and shared a deep-rooted passion for Ohio sports.
Ken was married to the love of his life, Karen M. (nee Erlings) Vassily, for 61 years. He leaves behind a legacy that includes his devoted children: Kevin Vassily (Kysa Connett) of Portland, OR, Kurt Vassily of North Ridgeville, OH, and Kara Vassily (Carrie D'Andrea) of Portland, OR. His love will continue to live on in his grandchildren, Garrett, Anna, Tucker, and Hannah Vassily, who will forever cherish their memories with him. He is also survived by his dear sister, Christine Vassily of Middleburg Heights, OH. Ken was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Martha Vassily.
Family and friends are invited to gather in his honor for a memorial service at 10:30am, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Rd. North Ridgeville, OH. 44039. The Reverend Sondra Snode will preside.
