Kenneth Villard Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 2, 2024.
KENNETH L. VILLARD, PhD
Ken was born in Massillon, Ohio to Kenneth L. Villard and Marilyn Elaine Villard and
received his "birth football" at Massillon City Hospital. He inherited his passion for fishing
from his father through their annual family fishing vacations to Rapid 13 on the Ottawa
River in French-speaking Quebec. He became lifelong friends with several school
buddies who also shared this love for fishing and adventure, which led to annual fishing
trips each year in eastern Canada and the eastern United States. Ken played the
trumpet in the Massillon Washington High Band and like most Massillon Tigers after
graduation he followed his high school football team religiously for the rest of his life.
Ken graduated from Bowling Green and went on to complete a master's degree at
Michigan State. He served in the army and again through a common interest in fishing
he made additional lifelong friends while in the service. Ken completed his doctoral
studies at Michigan State and then served as a professor of communications at
Cleveland State University while authoring several textbooks on communication skills.
Ken then made a shift in his career and worked for the Federal Reserve Bank based in
Cleveland in their personnel department. Again he made lifelong friends in the banking
industry before founding his own company in the mid-1980s named "The Villard Group."
His business took him to the West Coast to establish his home in California and grow his
consulting business dealing with management skills, coaching, consulting, and employee
retention. He soon gained business clients worldwide and moved his home to Lake
Tahoe while keeping his business in California. Ken's career was exceptional and the
lives he spoke were vast. Ken loved few things more than assisting others to achieve
their full potential.
Ken leaves as he termed her " the love of his life" Alicia. He and Alicia spent 12
wonderful years as partners and the truest and dearest friends. Ken found in her the
family he never knew he wanted or needed in his life and to this end did he ever
embrace it and master it abundantly well. Ken jumped right into this family unit and
became the most loving and cherished father to Celeste and Aiden and in most recent
years P'ers to Meadow, Silas, and Holland. Alicia, Celeste, and Aiden are profoundly
blessed to have been loved and cared for so deeply by Ken. He was nurturing, loving,
kind, exceptionally accomplished an all-around exemplary human. We will never know
another as truly remarkable as he. Ken leaves a profound legacy and imprint on our
hearts. He will forever be cherished.
In the words of Maya Angelo, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take,
but by the moments that take your breath away". This was our favorite mantra and truly
how we lived our time together.
To a life well lived, rest in eternal peace, my Love. I will see you again some sweet
day.
Private services for Ken will be held at a later date, per his wishes.

I knew Ken for 50 years and over the years we spent a lot of great times together. I was fortunate to speak with Ken the evening that he passed and he mentioned that he was very happy and content at this time in his life. Knowing this gives me great peace. I told him that I loved him and responded in kind. Love you, brother.

I met Ken through his sister, Kim Villard Urbas, and was immediately struck by his soft-spoken demeanor and genuine care for everyone he encountered. Ken's dedication and achievements were truly inspiring, and I admired his hard-working nature and the success he attained throughout his life. He always took the time to listen to me and offered thoughtful encouragement regarding my career. As we say goodbye, I pray that God welcomes you swiftly into eternal life, Ken. Please give my regards to Mom V and Ken Sr. when you see them. My deepest sympathy goes out to Kim, Mark and all that new Ken.

I met Ken when my brother Mark Urbas married Ken´s sister Kim. Yes, Ken has a sister despite that fact she was not mentioned in the obituary. I became very close to Kim and in turn to Ken and found a very educated and successful man. Ken was always most interesting to talk to and get his prospective on any number of situations. What I was most impressed by was the love and caring he showed for his sister, Kim. We meet and come to care about many people along our journey in life, but blood family have connections and memories no one else can share and that journey is only Ken and Kim´s. So sorry for your loss, Kim

My husband and I had the honor to meet Ken through his loving sister Kim. What a wonderful man he was. He shared his beautiful home in Tahoe with us and Kim and her husband Mark for a weekend and I will always remember his graciousness and hospitality. He was so encouraging to me in my ambition to start a small business. He will be missed. Rest in peace Ken.

Ken was my loving brother for 65 years. Even though we had 14 years between us, as I got older we became great friends and shared many wonderful times at our family home in Massillon, at his first home in Cleveland, and later trips to California and Lake Tahoe. We always made plans and time to spend quality time together. I always looked up to him and admired his drive and successes. I will miss him very much and he always knew how much I loved him. As my only sibling, I feel blessed and proud to say he was my brither. Always in my heart-Kim

An obituary for Ken is quite the most impossible task. You did it so perfectly. What a wonderful tribute to not only all the things he did, but the person he was, and his impact on others. Absolutely beautiful.
