Kenneth "Shadow" Winterbauer, of Greeneville, went to be with our Lord Dec. 20, 2024, at the age of 75.
Born in Long Island, New York, to Philip and Leona Winterbauer, Ken graduated from Long Island Lutheran School in 1967 and earned an associate's degree in forestry from Paul Smith's College. Following a friend's suggestion, he moved to Greeneville, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from Tusculum College and fell in love with the people and mountains.
He met his wife in Chattanooga where they raised their daughter before retiring back to Greeneville in 2019.
Ken was a passionate musician throughout his life, whether on stage or at intimate gatherings. He was an avid woodsman and known for being the best friend anyone could have. He cherished his time at Tusculum College, helping organize the Old Oak Festival and serving on the Alumni Board.
He was preceded in death by his father: Philip; his mother: Leona (Clement); a brother: Paul; and a cousin: Donald Clement.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years: Gail; a daughter: Hannah; son-in-law: Macaulay Akin; and a sister: Elise Sinagra (Vincent).
His funeral service and visitation will be at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, respectively, at Reformation Lutheran Church in Greeneville.
Flowers or donations to Hurricane Helene restoration efforts are appreciated in Ken's honor.
