Kent Bergquist Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weeks' Enumclaw Funeral Home on Oct. 3, 2024.
We honor and remember the life of Kent Bernard Bergquist, affectionately known to many as "Sparky" for his spirited personality. Born on April 7, 1943, in San Francisco, California, Kent was a man of courageous spirit, reliable in every sense, and fiercely loyal to his loved ones, especially his wife Maryann. He was a unique soul, larger-than-life with a heart that matched, full of compassion for those around him. His spirited nature was evident in everything he did, from his dedicated career in law enforcement to his adventurous hobbies.
Kent dedicated 34 years of his life to the California Highway Patrol, retiring in 2000 as a State Traffic Sergeant. His loyalty and courage were not only traits but guiding principles in his professional life. His dedication to maintaining safety and order was recognized with the esteemed State of California Medal of Valor. Kent's commitment to law enforcement mirrored his commitment to his family and friends - he was a reliable pillar of strength, always striving to create a safe environment for his loved ones. In his retirement years, Kent relished in SCUBA diving, golfing, traveling with Maryann, and most importantly, spending quality time visiting with friends and family.
Kent is survived by his beloved wife, Maryann Bergquist, his stepson Ian Canaan, his daughter, Heather Litterini, his brothers Tim and Jim Bergquist, his niece Grace, and his nephew Gunnar. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Bergquist, his mother, Betty Cameron and his sisters Tina and Lori. Kent's life was filled with love and deep connections, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. As American author Mark Twain once said, "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." Kent indeed lived his life fully, with courage, loyalty, and spirit.
Please join us in celebrating Kent's life by sharing your memories and uploading photos of Kent to his memorial page. Let us remember his spirit, his courage, and his love for life as we honor his memory.
