Kerin Griswould Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home - Ayer on Mar. 2, 2026.
TOWNSEND: Kerin Martland Griswould of Townsend, formerly of Groton, passed away February 24, 2026, at Brigham and Women's Hospital after nearly a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born in the same hospital on May 6, 1982, and was the beloved wife of Mathew Griswould II for over 15 years. Friends and family fondly remember their wedding at Mission Church and Fenway Park in Boston, MA

Kerin was a lifelong Red Sox fan and considered the championship roster of the 2000s her favorite installment of the team. Attending games and frequenting nearby restaurants was amongst her and Mat's favorite pastimes.

She attended the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, where she was captain of the swimming and crew teams. She swam competitively at Wheelock College and taught swimming for years at the Groton Country Club. The tradition continues in her daughter, Mackenzie, 13, who already holds a Junior Olympic gold medal in the sport and in her son, Mathew, 8, who is inspired to be equally competitive.

Kerin is described by family, friends, and colleagues as sweet, caring, and strong. Her heartwarming attitude shined in every aspect of her life. Her optimism was unmatched. You could not break Kerin's spirit and she never stopped caring for all who touched her life. Even when facing one of the most aggressive cancers, her concern for others superseded her own struggles.

Her selflessness fueled her professional career as a teacher for the Nashoba Learning Group and Billerica Public Schools where her patience was uniquely suited for those with all forms of autism and other special needs. Whatever one may need, Kerin seemed able to provide. The world with Kerin was a magnificent gift, but something tells us the world with her as a guardian angel may be an equal or greater blessing, that is, if we share her optimism.

She is survived by her husband, Mathew Griswould II, children, Mackenzie and Mathew III, of

Townsend; her parents, Kay and Ted Martland of Nashua, NH; sister, Jennifer and children, Brooklyn and Bradley Behrens; brother, Teddy Martland; grandmother, Clare Lyons Flanagan; parents-in-law, Julia and Mathew Griswould Sr.; sister-in-law, Beth and son, Jordan Griswould, and husband, Phillip Kines; as well as an abundance of cousins, relatives, and friends, all of whom shared a meaningful connection to her over the years.

Visiting hours will be 4-7pm, Monday, March 9, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home in Ayer, MA. A church service will be held 10am, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Parish, Dunstable Road, in Nashua, NH. The graveside service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to her support fund.
