Kermit David Tharpe

THARPE, Kermit David, 77, of Phelps Creek Rd., Gladys, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Janie Childress Tharpe. Mr. Tharpe was born in Charlotte County, April 15, 1933, a son of the late Kermit Tucker Tharpe and Irene Royster Tharpe. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a retired employee of Burruss Company. He is survived by one son, Jeff W. Tharpe of Gladys; two daughters, Brenda T. Carr and husband, Wayne, of Gladys, Patricia T. Bray and husband, Dale, of Gladys; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Curtis Tharpe, Harold Tharpe, Wade Tharpe and James Tharpe, all of Drakes Branch; one sister, Joyce T. Nichols of Drakes Branch. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2010 at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Lewis Evans, with interment to follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Brookneal, and at the residence other times.
