Kerri Lyn Baker, 54, of Middletown, RI, died at home on December 16, 2024. Born in Newport, RI on September 19, 1970, She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Madeline (Aleicho) Baker.
A lifelong Aquidneck Island resident, Kerri raised her young family in Newport before moving to Middletown. She was a long time manager at Benny's in Middletown until it's closing, and enjoyed the sense of community working with her colleagues. Kerri held a deep faith, and read her bible daily, and usually took notes or wrote essays in reflection of the scripture readings.
Kerri is survived by her children; Lucus Canuel, David Canuel, Josh Canuel and his fiancée Shannon Mathis, and Nick Menard and his wife Hailey, all of Middletown, and one beloved granddaughter Ivy Rosa Thorn Chamorro Canuel. She also leaves two brothers, Ronnie Baker and his wife Kathy, and Herbie Baker and his wife Chris, all of Middletown and a sister Karen Baker of Coventry, RI, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her cousin and close friend Donna Southworth and her husband Robert. She was preceded in death by her companion Richard Sowers, who died unexpectedly in May, 2024.
In her final days, Kerri expressed two requests for her friends and family. First, please write a letter of encouragement and support to Lucus. Second, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to support Lucus's education. Both can be mailed c/o Donna Southworth, 49 Sunset Lawn Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21 with visitation from 9:00-11:00am and a service beginning at 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park.
