Kersensio ( Ker ) Zepeda passed away on September 13, 2025, at the age of 99. He was born in Ennis, TX, to Julian and Juana Zepeda and lived most of his life in Des Moines, IA. In 1950, he married Virginia Harvey at St. Anthony's Catholic Church and together, they raised their family in West Des Moines, they were married for 60 years until her passing. In 1972, Kersensio was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses-a faith he remained committed to for the rest of his life. Kersensio's home was a place of warmth and welcome, always open to family and friends. Whether sharing a meal around the table, enjoying lively conversation, or listening to music, he found joy in bringing people together. His hospitality, generous spirit, and love of togetherness created lasting memories for all who visited. He enjoyed traveling, long walks on Grand Avenue, gardening, and design-interests that reflected his curiosity, creativity, and appreciation for beauty in everyday life.

Kersensio lived a remarkable and purposeful life, defined by love, resilience, and quiet strength. His 99 years were a testament to unwavering faith, generosity, and deep devotion to family.

He is survived by his children: Mark Zepeda, Lance Zepeda (Naomi), and Shawn Kaas (Jim); his grandchildren: Nicole Broin, Bryan Zepeda (Amber), Bailey Jones (Ryan), Hanna Zepeda (Chris), Sam Zepeda, Alexandra Martin (Josh), Julian Kaas, and Victoria Kaas; and his great-grandchildren: Calvin Broin, Emmrick Broin, Azellia Broin, Garret Jones, Harper Jones, and Olive Zepeda.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents, Julian and Juana; his brothers, Sylvester, Onessimo, Timothy, Richard, and Peter; and his sisters, Manuela, Jovita, and Lupe.

The family would like to thank the Kavanagh House for its compassionate care and dignified treatment of Ker in his final days. We couldn't have navigated this difficult time without your wonderful staff.
