Kevin Mathew Hurt

Kevin Mathew Hurt, affectionately known as uncle-dad to Steven Todd Jackson (St), lived a beautiful life filled with love, friendship, and admiration. Kevin was the ninth child of twelve, born March 13, 1958, in Orange, N.J. to loving parents Joseph A. Sr and Josephine Hurt. Kevin gained his Angel Wings on August 2, 2024, at 66. He slipped away after battling a lengthy illness.
Kevin attended the Orange School System and was a proud graduate of Orange High School. He was a cherished member of the Orange Community throughout his 66 years. His career was marked by dedication and excellence. He spent 25 years working for Omina Industries Inc. in Cedar Grove, N.J. until he fell ill in 2013. Kevin had a magnetic personality and people gravitated towards him. He was adored and beloved by his colleagues.
Kevin was a reserved, caring, and giving person. He loved his family unconditionally but his mother (Maphine) was his heart. Kevin was an incredible mentor to the youth in the family. He inspired them, motivated them, and served as a guiding light on their journeys.
Kevin's hobbies and interests help identify who he was. He had a love for weightlifting which he gained from his eldest sibling Joe-Joe. He had an eclectic taste in music and loved Maestro Barry White's renditions. Kevin spent many hours singing with his warm deep bass baritone voice.
Lorraine was Kevin's steadfast caregiver and advocate remaining faithfully by his side from 2015 till his transition.
Kevin has been the rock of our family since the passing of our beloved father. He has been the captain of our ship steering us safely through the turbulent waters of life. Each passing day deepens our longing for him. We love him but God loved him best. Our relationship with him was more precious than diamonds. Our hearts are broken into a million tiny pieces. You're our hero! Rest in eternal peace dear brother – you will live forever in our hearts.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. Sr and Josephine Hurt, brothers, Joseph Jr, George, Claude, Steven and sisters Hattie Ellis, Diane Hurt-Jackson and Deborah (Debbie) Hurt. He is survived by a brother, James Harper and sisters Karen and Lorraine Hurt, Yvette Hurt -Whittle, uncle-dad to Steven (ST) Jackson, Godfather to Desare Hurt- Ward, brother-in-law Jeffrey Whittle. His special Gems: Kimberly Watkins, Rita and Cassandra Smith and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
