Kevin John Joseph Lacek was born on December 14, 1959 along with his twin brother, Keith, to Floyd and Deloris (Ochocki) Lacek in Canby, Minnesota. He attended St. Eloi Catholic School in Ghent, MN until they moved to Iowa and he then attended schools in both Spirt Lake and Aurelia, Iowa. After his high school graduation in 1978 he moved back to Minnesota. In 1980, Kevin met his future wife, Gale Kay Rasmussen, and on March 6, 1981 they were joined in marriage in Marshall, MN.

In 1994, they purchased the Midway Café and proudly ran that until 2004. During this time Kevin went into big rig truck driving as he called it, for Floyd Wild Trucking, eventually he moved to Eickhoff Trucking and then landed at Cliff Viessman Trucking so he could be home more often. He loved that company and remained there even after being struck with pancreatic cancer in 2022 until that battle forced him to retire in the beginning of 2025 because it became terminal. He fought a great and painful battle until it won on August 11, 2025. They also leased the Ol' Time Café in Ivanhoe for three years.

They had no children but spent many years rescuing various dogs and cats. Kevin leaves behind his special little buddy rescue "Lucky" whom remained at his side until he passed. His wife of 45 years, Gale; his siblings: Lori and Rex VanDyke, Keith and Janette Lacek, Todd and Sarah Lacek and Floyd and Caroline Lacek and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Floyd Lacek Sr. and special friend, Viola Haas, and Delores Ochocki Dannen; sisters-in-law, Lisa Carlson and Terry Rasmussen, along with his maternal and paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and in-laws, Eugene and Lilah (Kopitzke) Rasmussen.
