Kevin Lanahan Obituary

Kevin J. Lanahan, 73, of Yorkville, NY, passed away on December 15, 2025, following a recent and aggressive battle with cancer.

Born in Utica, NY, on April 28, 1952, Kevin was the son of John Lanahan and Evelyn Kahler Lanahan. After graduating from Whitesboro High School, he went on to become a successful lithographer and spent many years employed by Vick's Lithograph & Printing in Yorkville. Kevin was formerly united in marriage to Shelley Tanoury and together they shared four sons.

Kevin loved the outdoors. Whether he was sailing his boat, camping or simply sitting by a fire listening to music, he was happiest outside. Music was one of his lifelong passions. In his younger years, he played drums and later taught himself to play guitar, with his acoustic 12-string being his favorite. In later years, Kevin spent many weekends enjoying live local music and formed close friendships with several talented area musicians.

Like his father, Kevin enjoyed tinkering and had an incredible ability to fix almost anything. This attention to detail and craftsmanship carried over into his love of building balsa model airplanes, a hobby that showcased his patience and skill.

Among his many interests, Kevin especially loved time spent behind the wheel. His first car, a 69 MG Midget, was meticulously cared for throughout his life and proudly displayed at local car shows, where he was well known and frequently placed.

Kevin maintained lifelong friendships, including those dating back to high school, as well as close relationships with his Vick's coworkers, car show friends and musician companions, many of whom reached out to him in recent days.

Kevin truly enjoyed his life and the people in it. He was a loyal friend, a devoted father and was incredibly proud of his four sons. Above all, he cherished being "Papa Kev" to his eight grandchildren.

Kevin is survived by his sons, Ryan (Maggie) Lanahan, Erik (Jillian) Lanahan, Cory Lanahan (Ashley Dennin) and Alden Phillips, son of his former spouse; his brothers, Kerry (Margaret) Lanahan, Keith (Sharon) Lanahan and Kirk Lanahan; sisters, Kathleen (Paul) Pelletier and Karen Murphy; grandchildren, Robert, Chase, Sophia, Kinsley, Bauer, Bowen, Brady and Liam; and Amanda VanEtten, mother of his grandson.

He was predeceased by his parents, John Lanahan and Evelyn Kahler Lanahan; and his son, Jesse Lanahan.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. at Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Rd., Rome. A Funeral Service will follow at 4 p.m., with Fr. Immanuel Agbulu officiating.
