Kevin Andrew Long

Kevin Andrew Long, born on August 15, 1983, in El Paso, TX, passed away on April 19, 2023, in San Antonio, TX at the age of 39. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Louis and Jackie Long of Cloudcroft, NM; maternal grandparents, Oral and Phyllis Nichols; and his uncle, Scott Nichols of Carlsbad, NM.
Kevin is survived by his parents, John and Susan Long of Boerne, TX; uncle, Mark Long (Lonnie) of Carlsbad, NM and cousins, Mark, Jr., Christy, Misty and Devon; aunt, Brenda (Jerry) Fox of Carlsbad, NM and cousins, Michael and Patrick; uncle, Paul (Christine) Long of Roswell, NM and cousin, Stacey; uncle, Jeff (Paula) Nichols of Southlake, TX and cousins, Sarah and Laura; aunt, Lynne (Vic) Saltsman of Clifton, VA and cousins, Sage and Ryker; and cousin, Wesley Nichols of Carlsbad, NM (Scott's son).
Kevin graduated from Franklin High School in El Paso, then attended TCU for undergraduate school and USC School of Cinematic Arts for his master's degree. He enjoyed an exciting career in the television and film industry as a film and TV editor for a variety of projects. The penultimate being editor for Academy Award-winner Cameron Crowe on the Elton John/Leon Russell documentary "The Union", which opened the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and aired on HBO. Kevin left the editing industry in 2017 to pursue a career in IT and became a full-stack software developer. He worked for Accenture Federal Services, then joined the H-E-B Partner Solutions Engineering Digital team in 2021. He thoroughly loved working for H-E-B and with everyone on his team and other H-E-B teams.
Kevin played and watched soccer, especially the World Cup and Premier League. Arsenal and LA Galaxy were his teams and he loved attending their games. He played a variety of sports growing up – soccer, bowling, baseball and golf. He bowled in several leagues growing up and recently in San Antonio. He studied martial arts as a teenager and is a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, then studied a variety of martial arts with Sigung Hasting Albo in El Paso. He loved being outdoor in nature – hiking and taking photos and snow skiing. He had a state park pass and was visiting many of them by himself and with friends. He loved to ride his bike on nature trails and raise money for charity alongside his H-E-B friends.
Kevin leaves behind many friends and his godson, Ezra. He loved to travel, especially with friends and to visit friends throughout the country. He produced videos for friends' weddings. Kevin loved cats starting at an early age and leaves 3 young cats he recently adopted, Spartacus, Crixus and Gannicus, that his parents now care for. Kevin uplifted everyone in his unique fun-loving way. He fought the good fight against depression and is now at rest. He departed wishing everyone love, peace and to be excellent to each other.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, TX. The chapel will open at 1:00 p.m. with a video tribute to celebrate Kevin's life before and after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to San Antonio Pets Alive, San Antonio Humane Society, a nature center or the charity of your choice.
