Kevin J. Reynolds Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Kevin J. Reynolds on Monday August 25, 2025, at the age of 71.

Kevin was born in the Sayre, PA area and moved to Cortland, NY during Junior High School.

He graduated from Cortland High School in 1972 and was a star long distance runner throughout his high school career in both Cross Country and Track, competing in several New York State competitions.

He graduated from SUNY Fredonia in 1976 with a Bachelor's Degree. Kevin excelled in both Cross Country and Track long distance running events at SUNY Fredonia as the teams won State SUNY Championships. Kevin was recognized as an NCAA All-American in Division III and competed in NCAA long distance running events while at SUNY Fredonia.

Kevin was a Residence Hall Director at SUNY Fredonia for several years and graduated from SUNY College at Buffalo with a Master's Degree in 1985.

Kevin moved to the Syracuse area in 1986.

Kevin was a dedicated and tireless employee, volunteer, and contributor to the SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) college in Syracuse, NY for over 39 years.

He retired as an ESF Campus Police Officer after 24 years of service and then held several roles in Student Affairs, the Athletic Department, the Library Archives, and Transportation for the next 15 years.

Kevin became extremely knowledgeable about SUNY ESF College history and gave several presentations about ESF history to staff, administration, and students at the SUNY ESF Campus, the Cranberry Lake Campus and the Ranger School.

He was an assistant coach for the ESF men's basketball team and the ESF National Champion men's and women's cross-country teams and was instrumental in starting the SUNY ESF Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kevin enjoyed running at Onondaga Lake Park, nature, campfires, pitch games and eating ice cream.

His frequently used sayings were: "Enjoy Today", "Friends and family make you rich" and "Practice Kindness".

Kevin's humor and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents, John C. and JoAnn N. Reynolds and by his two brothers, Mark and Steve Reynolds.

He is survived by sister-in-law Pamela Reynolds of North Carolina, a few cousins, and by dear friends Patrick and Holly McCabe, Bob and Mary Beary, and many special friends from his high school and college years.

There will be no funeral services.

SUNY ESF is planning a Memorial event to honor Kevin to be held at a later date.
