Obituary of Kevin Lee Stephens
Kevin L. Stephens, 72, longtime resident of Silver Spring, MD, passed away after a courageoust battle with ALS-FTD on August 17, 2022, at home. Born in Arlington, VA, to Russell M. and Christina Stephens, Kevin was predeceased by his brothers Russell (2004) and George (2005). Kevin is survived by his devoted wife Shelley Sarrin, a sister-in-law, niece, nephew, and many friends and neighbors. Kevin was an animal lover, and his family included his beloved dog, Kip.
Kevin retired as a fiber optics cable splicer in 2010, having worked for most of his career as an outdoor technician for the C&P Telephone/Bell Atlantic/Verizon phone company.
He loved outdoor activities, especially hiking, motorcycle and bike riding, and rock and ice climbing, which took him on many adventures around the United States and to other countries. Kevin enjoyed playing and listening to music, and he was an avid reader who collected books about climbing, mountaineering, and history.
Kevin liked being a handyman around the house, making repairs and taking on restoration projects. Kevin was fun-loving and had a keen sense of humor, and loyal to his friends who supported him through his unfortunate illness.
Kevin's wife is ever grateful to their loving friends, neighbors, and caregivers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Humane Rescue Alliance. A memorial gathering for Kevin will be announced at a later date.

Kevin and I shared many precious moments. He was one of the finest men I have had the pleasure to know. His insight, sense of humor, and wit pleased me no end--he was the exemplar of the armchair intellectual--humble, thoughtful, and deeply devoted to his ethics. We did not make a poor choice when you became godfather to our son. We have lost a loving and truly special person. Monica and I will carry only fond thoughts of our time together with you. Peace and Happiness, Always.
