Kwang Choon Kim, 78, passed away suddenly on August 12, 2025. He also went by his Catholic name, Edward, and nickname, Ted. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Kwang C. was born in Korea on September 20 and was one of six siblings. Due to difficult circumstances surrounding the Korean War, one sibling sadly passed away at a very young age. He was one of five surviving siblings.
Kwang C. is survived by his four siblings, Kwang Woon, Kwang Gil, Ye Sook, and Kwang Guen. Kwang C. is also survived by his wife, Joo S. and two daughters Jane (John) and Kathy, as well as his six grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, Theodore, Adelaide, Andrew, and Daniel.
During his youth in Korea, Kwang C. graduated from Chung-Ang University with a major in Journalism. He also attended Seoul National University graduate school. He had a brilliant mind and held education in high regard. He was fluent in both Korean and English, which he used in pursuit of his quest to seek knowledge and truth. For him, the educated shouldered a greater responsibility to safeguard against injustice.
In 1975, Kwang C. met his lovely wife. They were married on August 21, 1976, and happily remained together for almost forty-nine years. In 1976, they both made the momentous decision to immigrate to the United States and that began a new chapter in their lives. They expanded their family in Bronxville where they raised their two daughters. They became US citizens and had a beautiful life together. In 2005, they moved to Yonkers but always considered Bronxville (in Westchester County, NY) as their hometown.
In 1990, the family was involved in a serious car accident. Through God's Grace, the family survived and miraculously, their daughters were completely unscathed. Recognizing that God protected and blessed their family, husband and wife chose to accept Catholicism and chose the names Edward and Elizabeth respectively. They embraced their faith and were active members in their Korean Church community.
Kwang C. was a highly loving, thoughtful, gentle-hearted, and honest person. He always wanted the best for his family. He was a good listener who also loved telling stories. He had a remarkable way of threading wisdom in daily conversations. "Always try to do your best" was a cornerstone adage in our house.
The family home was always full of music and song, as he loved singing and had an amazing voice. As an amateur photographer, he had an eye for capturing beautiful and unique moments on film. He also loved sweets and enjoyed those quite frequently. He dearly loved playing golf with his wife and friends.
The family will welcome relatives and friends to a Catholic funeral mass on September 6, 2025, at Sacred Heart Church located at 10 Lawton Avenue, Hartsdale NY, 10530.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that loved ones and friends keep Kwang C. (Edward) in their hearts by keeping his adage alive – "always try to do your best."
Memorial Mass: 10:00 am, Saturday, September 6, 2025, Sacred Heart Church, Hartsdale, NY
