Kimley “Kim” Craig Hensley, Sr., age 73, of Elon, NC, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of his loving Savior on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Born on March 5, 1952, in Alamance County, Kim was the beloved son of Julius Vance and Vaden Gant. He graduated from Western Alamance High School, Class of 1970 and later attended Elon College where he earned his degree in accounting.
Kim dedicated his career to auditing, spending over 38 years with Defense Contract Audit Agency, where he was known for his work ethic, leadership, kindness, and attention to detail. Beyond his professional life, he was passionate about golf and skiing, finding a good deal, his family, his country, and his faith. Kim loved children and donated hundreds of stuffed animals through the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association of which he was an honorary member.
Kim was a devoted husband to his wife of 53 years, Paula Jane McIntyre Hensley, and a proud father to Craig Hensley and daughter-in-law Alison. He was a cherished grandfather “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, Mac and Andrew Hensley, as well as “adopted” grandfather to Penelope and Fitz Archer.
Survivors other than his wife, his son, daughter-in-law, and his grandchildren, include a sister, Melba Crane, as well as his sisters-in-law, Linda Hornaday, Glenda Spruill, and Anna McIntyre; nephews, Aric Crane (Heather) and David (Joell); nieces, Addie (Lou) Flynn and Ivey (Amos) Archer. Kim had a big heart and considered Duffy and Denise Westmoreland and Mildred Huey to be members of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Charlee Jane as well as his brothers-in-law, Jim Spruill and Bill Crane.
A man of faith, Kim was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Community Church and served faithfully as a greeter. He will be remembered for his kind heart, big smile, and ability to speak to everyone he met.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, June 13, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45pm at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. Kim never missed a tee time, so the family requests that attendees wear their “golf attire” as we join together to say goodbye.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of White Oak Manor and AuthoraCare for their compassion and care in his final days.
Kim’s legacy of love, happiness, and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
