Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 19, 2013.
Kim K. Kearby, age 66, of Round Lake, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

He was born November 30, 1946 in Hammond, IN to Jerome C. and Dorothy M (Leu) Kearby. On June 5, 1981, he married Jeanne L. Bell in Waukegan.

Raised and educated in Hammond and Chicago, he graduated from Lutheran North High School and Illinois Teachers College in Chicago. He received his Master’s Degree from National Louis University in Evanston.

An educator for his entire career, he relished 40 years teaching Round Lake children at Beach and Village Elementary Schools before retiring in 2011. He served as the President of the Teachers Union for multiple years, and Region 38 Chair for the Illinois Education Association. Currently, he was a member of the RL District 116 School Board and was elected as Northern Lake Retired IEA.

He will be remembered for his dedication to his community as teacher, leader, organizer and activist. These were his passions. Even though Kim was on the frontline for numerous causes, nothing came before his family.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jeanne; four children, Che (Melissa) Kearby of Trevor, WI, Michael Kearby of Chicago, Quinn (Feonia) Kearby of Volo, and Reed Kearby of Round Lake; and two grandchildren, Jefferson and Keegan.

Friends may visit with his family from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Justen’s Funeral Home, 222 N. Rosedale Court Round Lake, IL 60073. His family and friends will offer words of remembrance at 7 p.m.

His family suggests memorials to Education Association of Round Lake (EARL) Kim Kearby Scholarship Fund, 1421 N. Ardmore Road, Round Lake Beach, IL 60073, Attention Krissi Culp.
