Kimble Rene McGowan was born August 11, 1965, to the late Clara Jean Haynes of Columbia, MD and Charles Galloway of New Orleans, LA. Kimble departed this life on January 1, 2025, at his residence in Baltimore, MD. This was just 10 days shy of the 1-year anniversary of the loss of his mother and our angel Clara Jean.
Kimble had a healthy but mischievous childhood prior to becoming ill at the age of 18. He attended Scranton Technical High School. Our fondest memory of Kimble was his kind and gentle spirit. During his youthfulness, however, he was something else. He once took on six kids in a fight! No one messed with Kimble!
Although he suffered with mental illness most his adult life, Kimble was always overjoyed to spend time with family. He loved spending time with his siblings, Pat, Cassandra, Joyce, Chris, Shatonya, and Gregory. His favorite phrase to family members was "you got something for me" and they always had his 2 liter of Pepsi, cigarettes, radio headphones and batteries. He absolutely loved listening to music.
One of the most challenging things we can face in life is an illness that affects your behavior, emotional stability, mind, and your ability to socialize. Mental illness does not just belong to the person dealing with it, it belongs to the family. You become their protector, advocate, and most times their only friend and support. As a family, it was important to make sure Kimble knew that he had a family that loved, supported, and protected him. Until her death, Mom made sure that Kimble always had the best living environment and best medical care, but more importantly, she ensured that he was surrounded by a tight family unit that would protect him when she was no longer living.
Mom, we hope that we honored your request in the best way! We did our best to continue the support, unconditional love and guidance that you constantly provided Kimble until he departed this life.
Kimble, we know that Mom has you now, but please know that there will always be a space in our hearts and lives dedicated to your memory. Rest easy, dear brother.
He was preceded in death by his mother Clara Jean McGowan-Haynes, his sister Joycelyn V. McGowan and brother Gregory D. James; grandparents Jewerel and Audrey McGowan; great grandparents Willis Webster and Daisy McGowan; aunts Sharon Denise McGowan and Gwendolyn McGowan Seagroves, uncle Lloyd McGowan, and niece Mya Boyd.
He leaves to mourn; his father Charles Galloway of New Orleans, LA; 2 loving brothers Patrick McGowan (Renee) of Scranton, PA; Chris McGowan (Patricia) of Windsor Mill, MD; 2 loving sisters Cassandra L. Boyd-McGowan of Elkridge, MD; Shatonya James-Gilliam (Wendy) of Detroit, MI; three uncles Jewerel W. McGowan Jr. (Diane) of Adrian, MI; Bobby E. McGowan (Gloria) of New Brunswick NJ; Henry A. McGowan of Scranton, PA; an aunt Constance Johnson of Foxworth, MS; nieces Capri Hirschler, Breauna Brister, Shanelle McGowan, Brittany Green, and Madison Boyd; nephews Luvrelle and NeShane McGowan, and Brandon Boyd; great nieces and nephews LaMya, Aymal, Daniel, Kayden, Noah, Amyla, MaLya, and a host of cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 am in Bethel AME Church, 716 N. Washington Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509.
Family and Friends may be received from 10 am to 11 am at the Church.
