Kirk Haakenson Obituary

Kirk Haakenson
December 28, 1950 - March 16, 2025
Kirk Galen Haakenson, 74, of Biloxi, MS passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025 after his fight with cancer, at the Pillars of Biloxi in Biloxi, MS.
Kirk was born to Arthur and Glorys (Syverson) Haakenson on December 28, 1950 in Seattle, Washington. When he was very young, the family moved to Tioga, ND to be closer to family. He attended Tioga Public School where he played football and saxophone. At the age of 18, Kirk was drafted into the Navy and deployed to Vietnam aboard the USS Vega. Like so many fellow Veterans, he struggled with the lifelong effects of war.
He worked several jobs over the years; Williams County Deputy, derrickhand in the oilfield, and construction. He eventually earned a certificate from Williston State College in Diesel Technology and worked as a diesel mechanic.
He loved to travel and never stayed in one place for too long, that is, until he moved to Mississippi over twenty years ago. He was a dreamer, often reading or talking about mythology and theology; an exceptional artist and poet whose outlet was creating beautiful works that his family will now remember him by. His mother pressed the importance of learning how to cook, which he carried in life and is remembered for. In fact, his french onion soup was the best around!
Kirk is survived by his daughter, Celine (Daniel) Thurman of Great Falls, MT; son, Andre Haakenson of Gordonsville, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Glorys Haakenson; brother, Gary Haakenson.

So sorry to hear of Kirk's passing. He was my 1st cousin on the Syverson family. We spent a lot of time together as children. Last track of him the past few years. Very interesting obituary. Very talented! To his family. So sorry for your loss.
