Kirk Solum, age 62, of Baker, MN, died on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND after suffering a stroke.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Korsmo Funeral Service in Moorhead, MN with Rev. Ali Haugerud officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN.
Kirk Alan was born on August 30, 1963, to Eldon and Patricia (McEvers) Solum in Moorhead, MN. He grew up on a family farm in rural Baker, MN. He attended school in Barnesville through 1978 and then continued at Moorhead High School until 1984. He loved his family and had a special relationship with his nephews. He brightened the days and taught people around him how to live with special needs. He looked forward to all of the events he would win at The Special Olympics. Later in life, Kirk lived by his routine. He was comfortable being at home, caring for his animals, listening to music, and watching his westerns on TV.
He is survived by his mother Patricia Solum, of Baker, MN; three siblings: Kevin (Gayle) Solum of Barnesville, MN, Colin (Cheryl) Solum of Fargo, ND, Lori (Mike) Thompson of Barnesville, MN, seven nephews: Jim (Rachel Blankenship) Solum, K.C. (Amanda) Solum, Corey Solum, Jay (Carmen) Thompson, Clay (Chloe) Solum, Drew Thompson, Catlin Solum; and children; and one Aunt Lela Solum of Fargo.
Kirk was preceded in death by his dad Eldon Solum in 2024.
