Kirsten Strnad Obituary
Memorial Services will be held at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, Faribault on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault.
Visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Kirsten Marie Nielsen was born May 4,1943. in Mankato, MN to Reverend Immanuel and Viola (Johnson) Nielsen. In 1961, she graduated from Austin High School and went on to study at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa. She graduated with a major in speech and theater and minors in secondary education and English.
On June 10,1967, she married the love of her life, Reverend Forest V. Strnad. She shared with him in ministries in Chisholm, MN, and other towns in Greater Minnesota. Together they enjoyed traveling, bird watching and photography.
Kirsten worked as an educator of homebound secondary students and a substitute teacher at various levels. She retired in 2003 after years of teaching at the Faribault Area Learning Center where she enjoyed watching her students learn and mature.
Kirsten was a lifelong United Methodist. In addition to volunteering in the church, she served as a volunteer at the Homestead Hospice House. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, knitting, and genealogy.
Kirsten was proud of her Danish heritage and was a member of the Danish American Fellowship in Minneapolis. She also supported the Museum of Danish Immigrants in Elkhorn, Iowa.
She is survived by stepdaughters Linda Mura (Minneapolis) and Jane Smith (Texas), brother Laurits (Mary Ellen) Nielsen, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Forest in 2012, her parents and brother Lowell, a grandchild, Wesly Clark, and a niece, Sarah Nielsen.
