Koshy Kunnumpurathu Babu, age 83, of Houston Texas passed away on November 4th, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1942 to Thomas Koshy and Annamma Varkey.
He married Gracykutty Habel on December 25, 1972 in India.
He was a soldier in the Indian Army for his late teens and 20s, stationed in the Himalayas for several of the India/Pakistan wars and conflicts. It is in the Indian Army that he learned how to be a mechanic and to do electrical wiring, both skills that helped him provide for and establish his family once they immigrated to the United States first in NY, and then TX and now the next generations of his family are flourishing in NC and VA.
In the 50 plus years that he has been in the United States, he worked hard without complaining that is how he showed his love to his family. Even after retiring, he would often talk about going back to work at Powell Industries, because he missed it so much.
Babu was one of the founding members of St. Gregorios in Houston. In his last years, he attended alongside his wife at her church home, The New Testament Church in Houston.
Whether you knew him as Koshy K., or Babu, he was always willing to help anyone in need, but in very quiet ways. He did not boast about the help he provided for extended family or friends, he just felt it was his duty to help if he could, and he did; without grumbling, complaining, or making a show of it.
His love for hunting and fishing was lived out many times! He would take trips to go hunting with his friends, and going down to Galveston to fish with the cast net, or even to go deep sea fishing filled many of his weekends. Even if no one else on the boat caught any fish that trip, he somehow managed to bring home some big fish making him the envy of many fellow fishermen!
He was also known for his krishi (his garden) in the backyard. After work, he would be out in the garden; weeding and watering, tending to the okra, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, pavaka, kovaka, kappa, beans, and variety of other vegetables. He was just as successful growing crops as he was at fishing, and he shared the fruits of this labor with many friends around him.
His wife of almost 53 years (Gracykutty Babu), preceded him in death by just four months. She passed July 4th around 9:30am, he passed November 4th at 9:31am. Our prayer is that they are now reunited and in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
He is survived by his daughter (Blessy Marin), his son-in-law (Mustak Marin), and the pride of his life his three grandsons (Andrew, Mark & Zack).
He was the second of eight siblings. His siblings that preceded him in death are K.K. Rajappan, George Koshy, and Jainamma Antony. His surviving siblings are Ammalkutty George (India), Jolley Koshy (Dallas), Kunjumol Varghese (India), and John Koshy (Houston).
