Hilary Babu

Hilary Anne Babu, 37, of Mount Gilead, NC, passed away after a long illness on October 22, 2024, at Atrium Stanly Health in Albemarle, NC. No funeral service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2025 in her hometown of Maiden, NC.
Hilary was born on March 20, 1987, to Srinivasan Babu and Linda (Thompson) Babu Rivers in Ames, Iowa. She grew up in Newton, NC, and attended Maiden High School, graduating in 2005. After high school, she attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and graduated with a degree in psychology in 2009. She returned to her hometown and worked for ten years in food service management before moving to LeClaire, IA, in 2015. In the Quad Cities, she worked as an addiction counselor and later for the Iowa Department of Corrections as a residential officer for the Davenport, IA, work release center. Hilary loved helping people and her work allowed her to make a huge impact on the lives of many of her clients and residents. She collected friends and remained close with many school, college and work friends, often texting with them and sending them memes. She moved back to North Carolina in early 2024 to be with family. Hilary enjoyed reading, online shopping, home decorating, nature, astronomy, keeping up with her many friends, and spending time with family and her beloved kitties, Viking and Reggie.
She is survived by her parents; brothers, Gannon and Trey; maternal grandfather and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in both Iowa and North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her stepfather and remaining grandparents.
