Koshy Thomas was an extraordinary man who loved the Lord and his family with unwavering devotion. His life was a testimony of faith, sacrifice, discipline, and steadfast trust in God.
Born in Kottarakara, Kerala, India, he was the eldest son of Pastor Alumalla Koshy and Mother Thankamma Koshy-part of a family that pioneered the Pentecostal movement in Kerala. In his early childhood, the Koshy family sold all they had to serve as missionaries with the Ceylon Pentecostal Mission in Kerala. Through many hardships at the inception of the church, Koshy and his siblings were raised in an atmosphere of prayer, worship, and faith. Recognizing the challenges faced by these missionary families, Koshy and ten other young children were sent with the church founder, Pastor Paul, to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). At just ten years old, Koshy left his parents and homeland to begin a new life at the Faith Home in a new country that would become his home.
In Sri Lanka, he studied at Naveena Church School . His days were shaped by prayer, Scripture, and the guidance of pioneer pastors and sisters of the church. The children were trained to trust God for their daily needs and to boldly share the Gospel. They would pray over world maps, believing that one day the message of Christ would reach every nation. Finally meeting his Father in 1952, young Koshy asked his father, "what do you have for me?" His father gently reminded him, "I placed you in the hands of God who will supply all your needs." Those words became a guiding truth throughout his life.
At eighteen, Koshy left the Faith Home to begin his career. He worked as a salesman for an English company, traveling throughout Sri Lanka, while remaining a faithful supporter of the growing Ceylon Pentecostal Mission.
In 1959, he married the love of his life, Esther, a devoted believer from the Sri Lankan church. Together they built a Christ-centered home and were blessed with three children: Nelson, Samson, and Jessie.
Koshy worked diligently to provide an excellent education and comfortable life for his family, always encouraging them in the ways of the Lord. He faithfully supported his siblings and extended family, finding great joy in seeing them flourish. He is known in the community as an honest and pleasant buisnessman and pillar among Christians in Colombo.
After his children completed their schooling in Sri Lanka, he sent them to Kansas for university education and later joined them in the United States. In rural Kansas, missing the fellowship of a strong church community, Koshy and his children opened their home to university and local students-hosting church services, sharing meals, and encouraging them with the Word of God. He frequently traveled to Dallas, Texas, where he became deeply involved in the local body of believers. With friends and fellow Christians, he was instrumental in establishing New Testament Ministries in Dallas. He delighted in the fellowship of the saints and passionately supported the spreading of the Gospel throughout the world.
With his deep spiritual devotion, Koshy embraced life fully. He loved to travel, enjoyed good meals and sweets, and treasured time around the table with family and friends. He followed cricket and boxing with enthusiasm and was an avid reader. His strength, discipline, and quiet resilience-shaped by a challenging childhood-remained evident even daily. His final days in Dallas were filled with Bible reading, worship, heartfelt laughter, and precious time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. While he profoundly inspired his family, his gentle and caring influence touched countless lives across generations and continents.
Though his childhood was marked by hardship and limitation, it produced in him remarkable discipline, resilience, and strength-qualities that remained evident even in his final days. He lived without complaint or regret, fully trusting in God's provision.
He is welcomed into heaven by his beloved wife, Esther, and quickly reunited with his precious eldest son, Nelson.
Koshy Thomas is survived by his loving children: Samson and Linda, Sally, Jessie and Jeremy.
Forever his cherished grandchildren: Sarah, Joshua and Jennyn, Amanda and Allen, Evelyn, Joanna, Hannah and his great-grandson, Asher Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings who had gone before him. His precious nieces and nephews across the world honor his memory by striving to follow his example of faith, devotion, and unwavering trust in God.
"The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him."
- Proverbs 20:7
