Dr. Krishanlal C. "Kris" Khatri

Dr. Krishanlal "Kris" C. Khatri, a beloved husband, father, and public servant, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, surrounded by family at Blue Jay Springs in Green Bay. Kris was born on March 4, 1944, in Mithi, Pakistan, to the late Chatunmal and Utmi (Warde) Khatri. After attending the University of Sindh, Kris moved to the United States, earning his MS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he was actively involved with the East-West Center. He went on to receive his PhD in Agricultural Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, with his thesis titled "Simulation of Soil Moisture Migration." Kris's career spanned several decades and locations, from serving as Director at the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources to working as a Water Supply Engineer for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Vermont. He spent over 22 years at the DNR in Wisconsin, contributing to offices in Winter, Madison, and Green Bay. In 2013, Kris was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Rural Water Association, recognizing his immense contributions to the Wisconsin water supply program. He was committed to improving the lives of others through his work. Kris enjoyed discussing politics, watching and reading the news, and finding a good bargain. He was always ready to engage in lively conversation, make others laugh, and share stories from his life. His love for playing Bingo, Chinese Checkers, and card games, along with his deep affection for his dogs, Duga and Rascal, were just some of the many ways he brought joy to those around him. Kris is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie, and his five children: Mukesh (Bhagwanti), Manohar (Kiran), Christina (Evan), Sanjay (Tara), and Chandra. His legacy also lives on in his eight grandchildren: Mehak, Ayushman, Pia, Riya, Anika, Raj, Dev, and Sanvi, as well as in the hearts of his extended family.
