Kurt Friedl, 53, died Sunday, June 1, 2025, at Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse from an injury received in a fall. Kurt was born on November 16, 1971, to his parents, Gary Friedl and Mary Jane (Bartlett) Friedl.

Kurt attended St. Mary Elementary School, Tomah High School and the University of Minnesota at Winona. At age 19, Kurt developed a brain tumor which affected the rest of his life. Kurt enjoyed the years he worked at the Tomah Middle School library. His love of reading and his large collection of books grew from that experience. His other love was watching movies on the hundreds of DVDs in his collection.

Kurt is survived by aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends in both his mother and father's family.

He was preceded in death by his mom and dad; his grandmas; and grandpas; as well as other relatives from both families.

Kurt's family extends special thanks to Erin, who was Kurt's guardian angel for five years, helping him when needed and being a special friend. Our thanks also to Teresa, Vicki, and the rest of the staff at Aspen Place in Viroqua for the kindness, friendship and care Kurt received in his last years as a resident there. Finally, we thank the staff at Gunderson Hospital who were wonderful in their care of Kurt in his final days.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, 11 a.m., at the Queen of the Apostles Parish at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 303 W. Monroe St. Tomah. Father Ethan Hokamp will officiate. Burial will be at Wood Lawn Cemetery, 875 North Wisconsin St., Sparta.

Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Thursday, at the church, 10 a.m., until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial masses be given to Queen of the Apostles in Kurt's memory.
