Kurt Sherwood Jeffery, 74, long-time resident of Yates Center, KS, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, March 3, 2025, in Wichita, KS.
Kurt was born August 7, 1950, at Miami, OK, the son of Norman Lee and Norma (Jensen) Jeffery. He grew up in a number of small towns in Kansas following his father's career in education. He graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, KS in 1968.
He attended Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, KS, before earning his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Emporia State University. He later earned a Superintendency Degree from Pittsburg State University.
He taught and coached for Yates Center School District for 30 years before his retirement. He coached many sports but especially enjoyed high school girls' basketball and high school golf. He absolutely loved coaching! One of the highlights of his coaching career was taking a Kansas All-Star Girls Basketball team all over Russia in 1989. He also took great joy in teaching his grandchildren to play golf as well. He was a positive influence on the young people in Yates Center and was greatly respected as a teacher and a coach.
On January 19, 1981, he and Delana Gay Adams were married in Miami, OK. He is also survived by his children, Cammi Williams (Steven), Washington D.C., Klint Jeffery (Vanessa), Palmyra, VA, Broc Solander, Iola, KS, and K.J. Jeffery (Karli), Derby, KS; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chris Jeffery (Sharla), Sedan, KS, and Allen Jeffery (Nelda), Paola, KS; other relatives; numerous former students, and many friends.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at United Methodist Church in Yates Center.
The family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the United Methodist Church in Yates Center.
Memorial contributions will be made to Yates Center High School Athletics Department and may be sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, PO Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
