Kurt Kuhn Obituary

Dr. Kurt W. Kuhn

December 26, 1959 - August 12, 2025

Dr. Kurt W. Kuhn, 65, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at UnityPoint Hospice on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on December 26, 1959, the son of Matthew and Dorothy Moser Kuhn.

He married Lisa Hoffman in Iowa and they later divorced. Kurt met the love of his life, Suzanne Louisa Twedt in Reno, Nevada and they were married in 1990. They were blessed with two daughters, Sarah and Erika, and moved back to Waterloo in 1995 and opened Kuhn Chiropractic, PC.

Kurt graduated from Waterloo West High School, Palmer College of Chiropractic, and Purdue University. After graduating from Palmer College, Kurt practiced in Carroll, Iowa before moving to Reno, Nevada and opening a practice there. As a lifelong learner his extensive post graduate education included fellowships, certifications, masters degrees, and a Ph.D. which were important to him in providing excellent care for his patients. Kurt was pleased to sell his practice to Dr. Mary Kelly, his former associate, longtime colleague, and dear friend to ensure that his patients would be in good hands.

He enjoyed his life, including 42 years of caring for patients, 35 years working alongside Sue in his office, his friendships, many hobbies, and interests including: martial arts, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking, ham radio, playing guitar, photography, competitive shooting, reading, and listening to music. Kurt was proud to be an Eagle Scout and was an adventurer at heart. His very favorite thing to do was spend time with his wife, daughters, and family.

Kurt is survived by his wife, Suzanne Kuhn of Waterloo; his daughters, Sarah Kuhn of New Jersey and Erika Kuhn of Waterloo; his sisters, Kaye (Nick) Halvorson of Waterloo and Karla (David) Wach of Elk Run Heights, stepsister, Beayn Poock of Waterloo; his stepbrother, Brian (Connie) Poock of Robins; his nephews, Adam (Tami) Halvorson, Kristofer (Katie) Czerwiec, Eric Poock; nieces, Jessica (Craig) Dennison, Ellen (Brandon) Blount, Jenalee (Tyler) Wright, and Cortney Mikkelsen; and several great-nephews and great-nieces that he adored.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Dorothy Kuhn; stepmother Mozelle (Poock) Kuhn; and stepsister, Brenda (Poock) Barron.

Memorial gathering will be held Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Locke at Tower Park on Kimball Ave in Waterloo. Family - we had planned to attend the memorial service and are sorry we missed it this evening.

Wow! We rend our hearts with you Sue, and the family during this difficult time. We offer our deepest condolences for your loss!

Dr. Kuhn´s gracious and generous spirit was contagious. He radiated abundant life, love, and positivity! We will forever remember him. You see, he met our daughter one evening while she was working at a local video store to pay for her undergraduate education. She was trying to decide on medical school when he suggested Chiropractics. He urged her to consider Palmer, following up to provide guidance during the application process. And of course she was accepted to Palmer! Dr. Kuhn encouraged her throughout her studies. She met her husband who was also a student at Palmer. They have a flourishing practice and careers. We attribute this life changing decision in part to the care and concern Dr. Kuhn showed our daughter which was inspired by God. She is a notable practitioner in the academy of Science and Chiropractic Medicine. This move of God through Dr. Kuhn positioned our daughter for the greatness she has achieved.

Dr Kuhn was our practitioner and the only one to whom we made referrals. Literally, he worked "miracles!" He always asked about our family and took a special liking to my husband. :) Thank You Lord for Dr. Kuhn and Sue!

Dr. Kuhn, we will see Dr. Kelly for our chiropractic care because we trust you. And we will forever miss you and treasure your memory. Thank You God that our paths crossed with Dr. Kurt Kuhn.

..our family moved to Waterloo in the mid 1960s....I remember meeting Kurt as a young elementary student and participating in many of the same activities such as swimmming, baseball, scouting....he was a friendly soul and fun to be around....I recall his Eagle Scout ceremony in 1974 along with my brother Jim, Tom Sitz I believe, and one other (possibly Clark Candee)....Kurt was an all around good guy....my warmest and best regards to his family....sincerely,
