Kyle Pettis Sr. Obituary

Kyle Montique Pettis Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, servant of the Lord, and friend, departed this life on September 23, 2025, in Columbus, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Pettis and Frances Pettis, and four siblings: Carolyn Harris, Wanaetta Price, Herman Pettis, and Felicia Pettis. Born on February 22, 1955, in Washington, D.C., Kyle was the second of five children. From a young age, he exhibited a larger-than-life personality and a loyal love for those with whom he shared close relationships.

He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Washington D.C., where he laid the foundation for a life marked by service, integrity, and love for others. Motivated by a deep sense of purpose and duty, Kyle chose to further his education and personal growth by enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country honorably for 20 years before retiring with distinction. Never one to remain idle, Kyle pursued a second career with the Central Issuance Facility at Fort Benning, GA, where he worked diligently until his recent retirement.

Kyle is survived by two cherished sons from his first union with the late Debbie Ann Pettis: Kyle Pettis Jr. and Warren Pettis (Whitney Pettis), both of Columbus, GA; and his sister, Frances Mann (Mark Mann), of Washington, D.C. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who deeply admired and loved him.

Kyle lovingly embraced his role as a stepfather to Nika Ambeau, Charles Ballard IV, Aami Ballard, and Kyarré Ballard, all of Columbus, GA. He was also a proud grandfather. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he held each of them close to his heart. Grandkids: Jaiden Hack, Malachi Meadows, Carter Meadows, Brian Blackwell, Kai Ballard, Kacie Ballard, Khloe Ballard, Roman Ballard, Christian Clay, and Noah Ballard.

Kyle is also remembered by his beloved mother-in-law, Annie Baldwin of Pocomoke, MD, and an extended family of in-laws: Lewis Miles, Bonita Miles, Sharon Miles, Faith (Joe) Tucker, James (Cher) Miles, Arthur Miles, and Peggy Baldwin.

Kyle was introduced to the Christian life by Debbie in the 1980s and remained a devoted servant of God ever since. While in Columbus, he was, at different times, an active member of Bread of Life Christian Center under Bishop Skinner, Faith Tabernacle under Bishop Ann Hardman, and finally Solid Rock Church under Pastor Jay Bailey. His faith in God shone brightly and remained steadfast until the Lord called him home.

Outside of work and church, Kyle found great pleasure in the simple joys of life—traveling to new places, watching movies, shopping for clothes, spending time in fellowship with those he loved most, and cheering for the Washington Redskins. His personality was vibrant and outgoing. From the outlandish suits, his ability to make you laugh in any situation, his caring heart, the nicknames he gave, to his unwavering support, wisdom, warmth, and loving spirit—Kyle left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Kyle Pettis will be remembered for his strength of character, his servant’s heart, and the unconditional love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His life was a gift, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 3, 2025 at Faith Worship Center, 5303 Miller Road Columbus, GA 31909.
