Kylie “Ky” Michelle Scott was born on February 6, 2006, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Jennifer and Bradly Scott. In 2024, she proudly graduated with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. She was dedicated to her work in the medical field at UNMC’s Department of Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology, where she began her tenure in Phlebotomy and had recently accepted a new position as a Technician with the Specimen Management team. Ky dreamed of continuing her education abroad.
On September 30, 2025, Ky married her true love, Juniper Kotrc, in a celebration filled with love, laughter, and hope for their future together. She passed away on November 8, 2025, at just 19 years old.
Known for her unique creativity, Ky never did anything halfway. If it was worth doing, she poured her whole heart and soul into it. She played the violin for more than a decade, wrote poetry that was published more than once, loved photography, and most recently poured herself into scrapbooking. She felt things deeply and loved fiercely. Passionate about mental health awareness, LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and animal rescue, she was wise beyond her years, empathetic, and intentional in her actions. Ky also had a gift for finding beauty in unlikely places; most of her wardrobe was made up of treasures she found while thrifting.
She is survived by her wife, June Kotrc; mother, Jennifer Scott; brothers, Carson and Benson Scott; grandparents, Darrell and Denise Bush, and Debbie Scott and Steve Hadley; plus many cherished friends who loved her more than words can say.
Those of us who were lucky enough to love Ky will carry her with us through our choices, through the causes we fight for, and through every act of kindness and courage. She changed the people who loved her, and that’s how she stays with us: in the way we care for others, speak up, and refuse to do anything halfway. Her time here was far too short, but her impact lives on in all of us who choose to carry Ky forward in how we live and love.
