Lafiro A. Gomez III, age 44, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Mission Trails Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, with his beloved parents by his side. Lafiro was born on November 9, 1977, in San Antonio, to Lafiro J and Helen Van De Putte Gomez. After graduating from Southside High School with honors, Lafiro attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts until his health forced him to move home.
Lafiro worked for the United States Treasury Department as a Tax Examiner for 15 years before his health forced him into early retirement. After his stroke, Lafiro published three books and was working to complete his fourth. When his health was well, he was naturally left-handed, but his stroke took away the use of his left side, but Lafiro never let that get the best of him and he adapted to be the best he could in life. Lafiro fought more battles than one should ever have to face and finally cancer proved too much for him to beat. Although his years were young, he is now resting in peace, without sickness, at the throne of his beloved Father in Heaven.
Lafiro is survived by his beloved parents, Lafiro and Helen Gomez; aunts, Cathy Gomez and Leticia Landin; uncles, Eddie Gomez, Cesar Gomez, and Gary Van De Putte; sister-in-law, Adriana Bowell, and husband Lenny; nieces Gabriel Bowell and Allison Bowell; cousin, Alfred Van De Putte; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.
Lafiro was also preceded in death by grandparents, Lafiro L. and Guadalupe Gomez and Alfred and Emilia Limon Van De Putte.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. 1700 S.E. Military Drive, San Antonio, TX 78214. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, at the funeral home, with the Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 P.M. Interment will be held at Mission Burial Park South following the mass.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Davila Pharmacy and their staff, First Care Ambulance drivers and crews, and all of the doctors and nurses who took such good care of Lafiro over the past few years.
