Lamar Baxter, age 84, of Marianna, FL passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Jackson Hospital.
Lamar was born on July 31, 1938 to the late Winson and Ida Louise Baxter in Malone, FL. He was raised in Jackson County where he later made a home with his wife, Shirley Baxter in Marianna, FL. Lamar served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963. Once discharged from the Navy, he then worked for CSX Railroads as a track builder. Lamar took great pride in his family and loved them all dearly. He never met a stranger. Lamar enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, hunting and fishing, cracking jokes, frying fish, and listening to the radio. He loved working the Roller Rina skating rink in Marianna, FL and watching John Wayne movies.
Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, Winson Baxter and Ida Louise Baxter; his sister, Brenda Boutin; and his great grandson, Landon Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Baxter of Marianna; his children, Ricky Robinson and wife Cheryl, Tamie Womble and husband Robert Jr., both of Marianna, FL; his brother, Larry Baxter and wife Rachel of Malone, FL; his sisters, Martha Dansforth of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Alice Horne of Grand Valley, Missouri, Wanda Suggs of Marianna, FL, and Emma Ruth Stewart and husband John of Malone, FL. Lamar also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Shelley Brock, Necia Brock, and Brandon Robinson; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special nephew Mike Suggs of Marianna, FL, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be deeply missed.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 20, 2023 at Collins Chapel Cemetery in Malone, FL, with Pastor Chris Franklin officiating. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home will be directing.
